We’re proud of Sylvie for her performance in St. Patrick’s Day parades again this year!

First, she danced in the Burlington County parade again in Mt. Holly. It’s usually very fun and festive, but this year really tested their rain-or-shine philosophy – it poured rain all day!

The very next day, a beautiful Sunday, she danced in the Gloucester City parade – a first for us.

This parade was really, really fun! We live very close to Gloucester City, but didn’t realize how very Irish it is. It seemed like every other house along the entire parade route had their front porch decorated. Lots of driveways had essentially a tailgate spread and a party full of visitors to watch together. And the parade was so long, with all sorts of bagpipes and Mummers and dancers – we didn’t even stay the whole time!

We’re not sure how much longer Sylvie will stick with dancing at Peters School of Irish Dance, but she sure has had a great time this year, making some friends and learning hard shoe for the first time. She has decent rhythm and a big smile most of the time. Now she’s practicing for a performance during the school’s talent show. Alongside her singing and other performances, Irish dance has really helped her to overcome stage fright – I’m amazed at how different she seems before a crowd than her smaller self who often refused to smile for pictures or sing in front of her family at home!
